Using Model No. 1
--
Hold
the unit vertically with the adjustable sleeve on top. Gently turn the
sleeve (which is either tan or brown, depending on the style you purchased)
to the left until it stops. You should see 4 to 5 small openings (these
are the control vents). Turn the unit upside-down and place it on a flat
surface. Remove the cap (closure) and fill the unit with water until water
emerges from the control vents. Firmly re-insert the cap, which creates
a vacuum that makes leaking impossible.
Dry off the outside
of the unit and adjust the ring so that 1 to 5 control vents are visible.
You are now ready to use your HUMISTAT®.
(To be certain you've established the desired humidity level, consider
adding a HUMISTAT® Hygrometer to your
order.)

Using
Model No. 3 --

Place the unit on a flat surface with the cap (closure),
which is either tan or brown, depending on the style you purchased, and
the word, "Humistat®" on top.
Gently turn the clear adjustable sleeve until the 3 openings (control
vents) are exposed on both sides of the unit. Remove the cap and fill
the unit with water until water emerges from the control vents. Firmly
re-insert the cap, which creates a vacuum that makes leaking impossible.
Dry off the outside of the unit and adjust the ring so that 1 to 3 control
vents are visible on both sides. You are now ready to use your HUMISTAT®.
(To be certain you've
established the desired humidity level, consider adding a HUMISTAT®
Hygrometer to your order.)

questions]
Control Vents
-- Start with 2 to
3 exposed on MODEL No. 1, and 1 or 2 (on each side) on MODEL
No. 3 Over the next few days, check whether your instrument
is receiving enough, too little, or too much humidity. You can then adjust
the rings so that more or fewer control vents are exposed. You'll soon
reach a level of humidification your instrument needs. (To be certain
you've established the desired humidity level, consider adding a HUMISTAT®
Hygrometer to your order.)
[More
questions]
Changing
Control Vents -- Ordinarily,
you should have no reason to change the number--other than to make small
adjustments in the amount of humidity your instrument receives. Of course,
during change of seasons (or when you travel to a different climate),
you may want to make adjustments to compensate for either a dryer or moister
environment.
[More
questions]
Using
other liquids -- Absolutely
not. Adding any other liquid or substance will not only make it impossible
for your HUMISTAT® to do the job for which
you purchased it, it will cause irreparable damage.
